World Professional Association for Transgender Health
Global Education Initiative Standards of Care 8 Certification Program

The WPATH Certification Program signifies a provider is a WPATH member in good standing who has completed an additional rigorous curriculum related to providing gender care.  Certification indicates that the provider has a working understanding of the multidisciplinary care team and how the WPATH Standards of Care actually work in clinical practice. The 50-hour core competencies-based training program includes courses, mentorship and a final exam. The title of "WPATH GEI SOC 8 Certified Member" requires a commitment to stay on top of current evidence and receive ongoing continuing education to maintain certification.

If you attend ten hours in group meetings, they count towards WPATH Mentorship Hours. You can also combine individual and group hours to reach the ten total hours needed for WPATH Certification.  To be clear, having WPATH Certification means you understand how to apply the WPATH Standards of Care to your work. All therapists newly doing clinical work with gender diverse people should seek additional consultation (preferably over two years), in order to do this work at an expert level. This consultation can be obtained in groups, peer groups or individually with a seasoned gender therapist.
