Anthony J. Magnia, AMFT, APCC
He/They
Mental Health Clinician
I'm here to help you reach your mental health goals, build more satisfying relationships, and heal from trauma. I see adults who are California residents as well as teens 12 and up. My practice is primarily telehealth/video-based. I have a special place in my heart for QTBIMPOC* and neurodivergent geeks, gamers, cosplayers, pups and furries*.
I am a in training to become a Certified Geek Therapist. We do things like using therapeutic games, elements of your fandoms, and visualization exercises to explore who you are, express yourself, and increase self-confidence - that's the kind of creative approach I love to use. As a queer geek of color myself, I know what it's like to feel alienated and othered, and I want you to feel truly understood in our sessions. Learn more about Geek Therapy.
I also use a mix of trauma healing techniques and Liberation Psychology to help you on your journey away from negative internalized beliefs. I enjoy helping people find healing from Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD). Additionally, I have training in LGBT-Affirmative CBT & Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have training in a specialized form of EMDR, a powerful method for processing difficult experiences, with an emphasis on identity-based traumas (Race, Sexual Identity, Gender, and more). I'm passionate about making this type of therapy available to communities of color, and otherwise minoritized communities.
LGBTQ+ folks*, allies, and members of the kink, polyamorous/CNM communities - you're all welcome here!
I enjoy working with people who are transgender, non-binary, intersex, agender, questioning gender or de-transitioning (re-identifying). Letters for medical interventions are only available for my individual therapy clients at this time, which are co-signed by my supervisor, a WPATH Mentor and Certified WPATH Member.
I am also taking part in a training program through The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) to obtain my certification in sex therapy. Sex therapists are trained to have expertise in supporting their clients by helping to identify the underlying emotional or mental patterns that are causing concerns related to sexual dysfunctions, intimacy issues, sexual identity, orientation questions, fetishes and kinks, sexual communication, & sexual trauma and abuse. My goal as a clinician is to create a safe, judgment-free zone for everyone.
I'm pre-licensed, providing psychotherapy as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor, supervised by Lisette R. Lahana, LCSW #23663 CA
